It’s 90 degrees outside. Or maybe it just feels like it’s 90—does it matter? It’s hot and it’s humid and you’re thirsty, and that margarita night last week gave you an irrational fear of tequila cocktails that you just can’t shake (cocktail puns!). Time to make peace with agave booze and mix up a truly great, if underrated tequila cocktail: the Paloma.
The Paloma
→ 1.5 oz tequila
→ 1 oz honey syrup*
→ 1.5 oz grapefruit juice
→ Orange half wheel garnish
Once you’ve got your ingredients prepped, combine the tequila, honey syrup, and grapefruit juice in a cocktail shaker half full of ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a coupe glass. Add the half wheel of orange to garnish and prepared to be refreshed.
*This recipe calls for honey syrup—equal parts honey and water heated until the honey thins. It doesn’t take long to make and it’s so worth the effort, but be sure to let it cool to room temperature before using. Or prepare it in advance and keep it refrigerated.
The Paloma would make a great pre-selected drink at a cocktail party or wedding reception. Find out how to pull off an open bar on any budget here.
