The best moments are the ones you frame, but the difficult ones matter, too. In our real weddings series, we ask couples to share their wedding highs and lows.

BEST WEDDING MOMENT
Kevin: We had the wedding party enter the room to an orchestral arrangement of “Dancing Queen” by Abba. The event coordinators and the DJ had told everyone stand up and swing their napkins in the air when the grooms come in.
Kevin: It brings us to tears. We can’t get over that moment. If we even hear “Dancing Queen,” which is the craziest thing, we will start to get overly emotional to the point where it’s just comical. We wish this was every day. Can we just walk into every week like that? It was just the best.

WORST WEDDING MOMENT
Kevin: October in Chicago is either hot as hell or cold and snowing. We originally planned our ceremony outdoors on the back terrace space overlooking the garden. The day comes and it’s 30 degrees—just freezing. We had string quartet, and they pushed back about how it’s not great playing in 30 degree weather. At the time, we didn’t think it was a big deal, but no—that’s crazy, that’s freezing. We decided to move it inside.
Kevin: Honestly, indoors with the library, the stained glass, the fireplace—we wouldn’t have it any other way. It was way more intimate, and had it been outside, so cold, it would’ve put everyone in the mindset of “When will this be over?” instead of focusing on ceremony. Acoustics were amazing. Now we couldn’t imagine being married outside, like it was supposed to be inside the whole time.
