Because we all know our Aries exes are lame, but would like some data to prove it. (No offense Aries—despite it all, we just can’t quit you.)
It’s no secret that relationships take a lot of work. It’s also no secret that the second we meet someone new, we love to look up their zodiac sign and judge our compatibility (let’s be real, that’s why you clicked on this post, right?).
But zodiac signs are one thing, and how they translate to behavior is another. That’s why we decided to survey each sign on their self-reported behavior within and around relationships, dating, marriage, sex and more. We thought it could provide some serious insight for those deciding whether to prolong their summer hookup into cuffing season, or those reflecting on why they got burned the last time they dated a fire sign. Looking at you, Aries. (The author of this post may or may not have been hurt by an Aries.)
So, before you head out on a date with that new Tinder match, be sure to do your best sleuthing to find their birth date, and look over our findings below to know what to expect.

The Most Important Aspects of a Relationship According to Each Zodiac Sign
Starting with the most basic needs within a relationship, we found that most fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) and water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) value communication above all. Alternatively, most earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) and air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) put trust at the forefront of their relationship.
This could spell trouble for the dating scene, however, because apparently, water signs and earth signs work best together in relationships, as do fire and air signs. The good news is that communication and trust go hand and hand, and compromises can certainly be made.
Additionally, physical attraction was most important to Leo and Taurus, whereas respect played a big role in relationships for Aries, Gemini, Libra, Pisces, Sagittarius, Virgo, and Aretha.
Which Zodiac Signs are Easiest and Hardest to Date?
Based on likelihood to be jealous, we found that Capricorns are the hardest to deal with, with Aquarius closely following. The least jealous sign is Leo by a wide margin (at least, according to what they were willing to admit.)
If your partner owning up to their mistakes is a turn-on, trying dating a Taurus, Gemini, or Sagittarius. And if you don’t want to always be the first to apologize, steer clear of Aries, Libras, and Capricorns, for sure.
Finally, consider how important physical appearance really is to you, and if you’d want your partner to have the same standard. We found that the most self-reportedly superficial signs, or those that value physical appearance the most, are Aries, Libra, and Taurus. The most wholesome signs, then, would appear to be Cancers, Virgos, and Sagittarius.
How Promiscuous is Each Zodiac Sign?
The serial daters of the zodiac, according to the survey, are not the charismatic Leos or the flirty Scorpios, but the career-driven Capricorns and indecisive Geminis. Who would’ve thought? In fact, the highest percentage of Capricorns (18.2%) think it’s acceptable to sleep with someone after only one date.
If you’re looking for a hookup, also consider these signs who don’t mind going on a couple of dates before getting right to it: Aries, Pisces, Sagittarius and Scorpio. And if you’d prefer to wait a long time, you might be best matched with a Virgo, who’d prefer to have over 10 dates first.
How to Attract Each Zodiac Sign on Dating Apps
Okay, so, now you know which signs would probably be your perfect match. How do you score a date?
Our survey results indicated that if you’re looking to impress a Scorpio, Taurus, or an Aries, a dating app is a good place to start. If you’re looking to catch the attention of a Sagittarius on an app, lead with a question. And we were (not so) surprised to find that the only sign heavily concerned with your profile picture is an Aries. We’re sure you’re not all this way, but come on.
However, our results indicated that while many admit to using them, the majority of all signs dislike dating apps. Looks like you might have to swing by the bar and ask people their birth date the old fashioned way. Fortunately, every sign likes app-etizers.
Each Zodiac Sign’s Ideal Type of First Date
Now, let’s say your conversations with this person have gone well, and it’s finally time to meet up in person. Here’s how to impress your potential future mate.
The most popular first date for every sign is a casual dinner date, such as pizza and beer. Many signs would also enjoy something outdoorsy (especially Geminis), or joining you for a movie or show (such as Capricorns).
The least popular first date ideas? Sporting events and taking classes together. Turns out most signs just want to chill.
The Wedding Preferences of Each Zodiac Sign
It was written in the stars, and your first date turned into wedding plans. As you get ready to rent your tux and say “I do,” make sure you know what kind of wedding you might be in for.
If you’re linked to a Leo, you can expect a long engagement period, with over 24 months being their preference. As for the wedding party, the majority of Aries, Cancers, Leos, and Libras prefer 1-2 bridesmaids or groomsmen, while the rest of the signs prefer 3-4.
Looking to elope? Marry a Libra, Pisces or Aquarius. Want a destination wedding? Capricorns are all about it. And if the wedding of your dreams is a large party of friends and family, marriage to a Taurus, Leo, Virgo, or a Pisces is your best bet.
We know relationships are scary to navigate, and something like astrology can be a fun tool to help you along your way. Dating should be fun, mysterious, and a little bit scary, but don’t forget that the most important aspect to a long-term relationship isn’t you or your partner’s sign, but healthy, mutually beneficial compromise. Oh, and pizza and beer.
